Besides guiding other devotees. Sri Ramanuj is credited to serve Him as His father-in-law and teacher. Note : (i) It is said for the first time Sri Ramanuj in 11 th century AD offered Him a garland made of 108 goddess lakshmi (His divine consort) in gold, so Sri Ramanuj became His father-in-law, because earlier the main deity was without His consort, and who offers the consort becomes father-in-law. (ii) The deity was offered to hold sankha (conch) and chakra for the first time by Sri Ramanuj only. Earlier the deity was not adorned with such divine symbols. In srivaishnavite practices, a disciple is initiated as a srivaishnava by his guru by imprinting over his (disciple’s) arms the mark of sankha (over the left arm) and chakra (over the right arm). Since Sri Ramanuja also did the same thing for the first time for the deity by adorning Him with sankha and chakra, he is His guru.
